In Siria i soldati di Putin mettono in campo armi, velocità di movimento e sfrontatezza mediatica.
Un'esibizione di forza che spaventa
 
Gli Stati Uniti sono sotto choc per quel che hanno visto della non prevista capacità militare dei russi in Siria.
Non si tratta soltanto delle armi nuovissime ed estremamente precise, ma anche dello stile, della velocità di movimento militare e persino della sfrontatezza mediatica del Cremlino che sfida apertamente gli americani a fornire gli obiettivi che vorrebbero bombardati e quelli che vorrebbero risparmiare.

Washington è rimasta interdetta e sembra che la risposta sia stata: ci stiamo lavorando, vi faremo sapere.
Vero o falso che sia, questo scambio di battute ha prodotto il suo effetto. Un dettaglio per rendere l'idea: i russi hanno portato in Siria caserme prefabbricate per migliaia di soldati e hanno allestito spettacoli serali con ballerine e comici, varietà e teatro.
Ieri il New York Times dava un quadro molto documentato dell'effetto traumatico che sta avendo sull'America la guerra di Putin in Siria.
Tutti sono colpiti da un trauma che ha un solo precedente: quello del lancio del primo satellite artificiale Sputnik il quattro ottobre del 1957.
Allora l'America pensò di aver sbagliato tutto: scuole, addestramento, università, investimenti e si sottopose a una vera autoflagellazione che poi dette come risultato il primo uomo sulla Luna.
Adesso non si tratta di andare sulla Luna ma di prendere decisioni, anche diplomatiche e di intelligence, all'altezza del nuovo oggetto sconosciuto che non è più una palla di latta del diametro di 58 centimetri in orbita nello spazio, ma una macchina militare mai vista ancora in azione con tutti i nuovi armamenti che Vladimir Putin ha tenacemente voluto anche durante la devastante crisi per il crollo del prezzo del petrolio.
Alla Casa Bianca e al Pentagono lo staff militare e operativo ha passato ore difficili da cui alla fine è scaturita la notizia di ieri: Obama ha capovolto la sua politica e ha annunciato che a ritirarsi dall'Afghanistan non ci pensa nemmeno.
I ground boots a stelle e strisce restano sul campo anche per sostenere la concorrenza russa sul campo di battaglia.
Le forze armate di Mosca, nell'immaginario americano ma anche europeo, erano finora prigioniere del cliché sovietico: milioni di soldati ingolfati in uniformi sgraziate e milioni di tonnellate di ferro in marcia spargendo miasmi e cannonate.
Ora, con l'intervento in Siria ci troviamo di fronte al primo caso di una Russia che esce fuori dai confini del vecchio impero, cosa che non succedeva dai tempi dell'Afghanistan.
La sorpresa dello schieramento e l'inaspettata velocità di programmazione hanno portato vertici e analisti a concludere che l'operazione militare in Siria doveva essere stata preparata da mesi.
In realtà le forze armate russe non sono nuove a imprese veloci e impressionanti: quando nel 1945 Stalin si decise a spazzar via l'armata giapponese in Manciuria a guerra praticamente finita per bilanciare l'effetto delle atomiche americane aveva a disposizione magnifiche truppe che avevano combattuto in Europa mentre la produzione militare industriale era al suo massimo.
Ondate di grandi aerei sbarcavano divisioni e armamenti sul campo di battaglia riforniti da una combinazione mai vista di aria e terra.
Degli ottocentomila giapponesi non rimase nulla.
Oggi la situazione è ovviamente tutt'altra e gli analisti americani notano il netto progresso russo dall'intervento in Georgia del 2008 a oggi, passando per la guerra segreta e senza mostrine in Ucraina.
In Georgia le cose non andarono totalmente lisce: Putin perse alcuni aerei e la fanteria non si dimostrò all'altezza.
Sono passati da allora sette anni e in questo periodo è cambiata radicalmente la modernizzazione oltre che il look militare russo: vedi questi soldati in televisione, e sembrano americani.
Mostrano i filmati dei loro bombardamenti e trattano gli statunitensi come cretini («Hanno la testa piena di funghi» ha detto Putin).
Le uniformi, le navi lanciamissili, i ponti di comando, tutto è mostrato come in una showroom che è anche una guerra.
Che cosa succederà quando gli americani si saranno ripresi dal trauma?
Il Pentagono è sotto accusa per aver trascurato un monitoraggio all'altezza dei cambiamenti.
La Cia è ovviamente sotto tiro anche se l'intelligence americana ha da tempo lanciato l'allarme specialmente nel centro Europa.
L'esperienza storica insegna che gli Stati Uniti hanno al loro interno un software autocorrettivo che ha funzionato nel passato ogni volta che si doveva confrontare con potenze soverchianti sul campo, come la Germania e il Giappone, ma oggi non si tratta per fortuna di combattere una guerra fra potenze, ma soltanto di capire bene quel che accade per non fare e non concedere errori.
