Oggi cade l’anniversario della morte di Umberto Eco, semiologo, filosofo, narratore, docente e molto altro ancora.

Nella sua vita ha raccontato se stesso e le sue passioni sfornando capolavori cui il romanzo-bestseller “Il nome della rosa”.

Sotto certi aspetti fu premonitore di tesi ed in un ambito particolare di suo interesse ne divenne esperto: la cultura di massa.

La sua attenzione allora si trasferì dalla televisione ai mass media portandolo a pubblicare articoli, saggi e pamphlet.

Eco sognava una cultura in grado di propagarsi a macchia d’olio, speranza venuta meno con l’avvenire e il consolidarsi di internet e delle generazioni 2.0.

Passò alla storia la sua dichiarazione fatta durante una lectio magistralis tenuta all’università di Torino nel 2015:

“I social media hanno diritto di parola a legioni di imbecilli che prima parlavano solo al bar dopo un bicchiere di vino, senza danneggiare la collettività. Venivano subito messi a tacere, mentre ora hanno lo stesso diritto di parola di un Premio Nobel. E’ l’invasione degli imbecilli.”

Fu un grande scrittore e filosofo, grande punto di riferimento della cultura italiana; si dedicò a svariati campi dalla narrativa alla saggistica passando per l’analisi sociale e l’insegnamento.
