Mi chiamo Polina e sono una ragazza nata in provincia di Lugansk, vivo da 20 anni a Verona.
Ho pensato di inviare questa lettera perché i fatti che accadono oggi in Ucraina e Donbass mi toccano profondamente. Ho amici e parenti che lavorano in quella zona, combattono e non ho mai smesso di andare a visitarli, eccetto negli ultimi due anni.
Lì ho vissuto, ho frequentato la scuola. Conosco quel territorio e penso che l’informazione per essere giusta debba provenire da fonti diverse e non solo da un unico canale europeo».
Un altro punto di vista su una guerra che ha scosso l’Europa, e non solo, a partire dalla fine febbraio. Polina è una trentenne che da tempo vive nella provincia scaligera ma, come lei stessa ha detto, è nata in una delle zone dove si è acceso il conflitto odierno. Proprio la situazione del Donbass infatti era al centro dell’offensiva lanciata dal Cremlino, insieme alla possibile entrata dell’Ucraina nella NATO, ritenuta da Putin un pericolo per la Russia, il quale si è spinto ora fino alle porte di Kiev, capitale della nazione presieduta da Zelenski.

«Non pretendo in alcun modo alla assoluta ragione o unica conferma dei fatti, ma chiedo solo di valutare che dall’altra parte vi è un’altra verità, di cui la rete mediatica nazionale non parla», spiega Polina nella sua missiva inviata alla nostra redazione e prosegue: «La guerra in Donbass prosegue da 8 anni e fino ad oggi contiamo più di 15.000 civili morti. Da 8 anni Donbass è bombardato dalle autorità di Kiev e alterna le notti tra la camera da letto e scantinati. Ciò che oggi vediamo nei media, che ci riempie di immagini di dolore al fine di urtare la sensibilità dell’opinione pubblica e creare un unico nemico dell’Europa, in realtà non succede da qualche giorno, ma si svolge da 8 anni proprio nel Donbass, a cura del governo di Kiev e nel totale silenzio stampa occidentale.
Ci parlano dell’Ucraina come uno Stato sovrano, della nazionalità ucraina come un’identità di un unico popolo, ma per chi ci vive e ci ha vissuto non è assolutamente così e ci sono le ragioni per dire ciò.
L’Ucraina è una Paese diviso in due, ovest ucraino ed est russo e le radici di questa divisione sono molto profonde. Una breve riassunto dei fatti storici:

  • Ucraina dell’ovest fu parte dell’impero Asburgico, mentre l’est, parte dell’impero Russo.
  • Durante la Rivoluzione russa la zona del Bacino del fiume Don si sollevò al controllo zarista e nel febbraio 1918 costituí la Repubblica Sovietica del Donec-Kivoj Rog che venne annessa dai bolscevichi alla Repubblica Sovietica Ucraina.

Vivendo all’interno di un unico Stato URSS (e voglio chiamarla Stato perchè era questa la percezione contrariamente a quello che oggi potrebbe essere una Unione di Stati, quale è l’UE) che faceva capo a Mosca, le fratture segnate dalla storia precedente, quella degli imperi vennero cancellate. O meglio, non furono evidenti in quanto tutte le Repubbliche facevano capo a un unico centro il Partito Comunista di Mosca.
Con la dissoluzione dell’Urss, a partire dal 1991 quello che oggi chiamiamo Ucraina ha intrapreso la sua strada attuando una serie di politiche volte all’artificiale “ucrainizzazione” del Paese che hanno portato alla Rivoluzione arancione del 2004 dove l’oppositore Jushenko (sostenuto soprattutto nella sponda ovest) contestò i risultati delle presidenziali nei confronti del Presidente Kuchma e Yanukovich, preferenze espresse soprattutto nell’est del Paese».

Un contesto complicato quello descritto da Polina, che col tempo avrebbe visto le divisioni interne alla nazione accentuarsi sempre più: «Col passare degli anni andava delineandosi una sempre maggiore spaccatura tra la popolazione dell’Ucraina occidentale interessata ad un avvicinamento con l’Unione Europea, e l’Ucraina orientale, composta da popolazione russa.
La situazione si fece evidente anche nelle elezioni presidenziale del 2010, dove le popolazioni occidentali votarono l’europeista Julia Timoshenko, e le popolazioni orientali votarono per Viktor Janukovic, che prevalse.
Nell’Ucraina occidentale quindi si diffonde una narrazione fortemente nazionalista e identitaria, che porta ad un ulteriore inasprimento fra le due parti del paese ed evidenzia la contrapposizione tra cattolicesimo e ortodossia, la lingua Ucraina e la lingua russa.
Proprio qui nell’ovest vengono riabilitati i battaglioni Pravyi Sektor, Azov, e altri a forte stampo nazista dichiarato esplicitamente, vi sono diverse foto pubblicate con svastiche, il sole nero e altri simboli del periodo più buio della nostra storia.
Non per niente proprio in queste zone durante la seconda guerra mondiale vi erano collaborazionisti della Germania nazista che facevano capo a Stepan Bandera. Lo riportava anche un articolo di La Stampa nel 2014.
La situazione esplose nelle proteste dell’Euromaidan nel 2014, con il conseguente colpo di Stato che destituì Janukovic, costretto alla fuga, e vide l’instaurarsi di un governo nazionalista, fortemente anti russo, a guida di Petro Poroshenko.
Da questo momento furono emanati una serie di atti ufficiali che portano a una forzata ucrainizzazione attraverso:

  • Il divieto dell’uso della lingua russa nelle scuole (quando l’est del paese la scuola era solo russa con lo studio dell’ucraino come seconda lingua “straniera” insieme all’inglese).
  • Tutti i documenti pubblici dovevano essere redatti e compilati in Ucraino, cosa che comportó ulteriori difficoltà per la popolazione russofona, per esempio mia nonna per poter compilare moduli per ottenere un documento dalle amministrazioni locali, da un giorno all’altro si ritrovò a non poterlo più fare, ma c’era sempre qualche carina segretaria che si offriva a compilare il documento in Ucraino al posto suo a pagamento.
  • L’insegnamento della lingua russa venne vietato su tutto il territorio.
  • Venne vietata la libera professione della religione cristiana ortodossa legata al patriarcato di Mosca.
  • Le autonomie concesse dai governi precedenti vennero tutte revocate.

Iniziarono a diffondersi episodi di grande violenza nei confronti dei russi, il più celebre la strage di Odessa del 2.05.2014. Città di lingua e cultura russa, dove tra i 50 e i 150 russi vennero bruciati vivi nella Casa del Sindacato. Le immagini di questo crimine sono atroci. Ma nessun criminale fino ad oggi venne punito».

Da lì, secondo Polina, inizierebbe la guerra che noi vediamo oggi dopo l’invasione russa: «Coloro che nei telegiornali vengono chiamati “separatisti” o ancor peggio “ribelli” e “terroristi” sono i miei genitori, sono i miei amici. La loro colpa è essere russi e russofoni ed aver opposto resistenza ad un governo illegittimo fortemente russofobo che per diversi anni ha voluto cancellare l’identità russa delle popolazioni dell’est obbligandoli a sentirsi ciò che non sono, sradicare la loro origine e obbligarli a riconoscere una storia che loro non appartiene, vedere in Stepan Bandera il loro eroe. (Nel 2010, il presidente “arancione” Viktor Juščenko conferì la medaglia di eroe dell’Ucraina alla memoria di Bandera. Vi è un video della primavera del 2014 dove il nuovo presidente Poroshenko instauratosi in seguito al golpe dichiara esplicitamente che “noi” avremo lavoro e “loro” no, “noi” avremo le pensioni e “loro” no, i “nostri” figli andrano all’asilo e scuole i “loro” si rifugeranno negli scantinati. È una dichiarazione di odio, divisione e esplicita russofobia, nonchè minaccia)».

La trentenne dunque s’interroga sulle diverse reazioni avute dal mondo, ma anche sul lavoro svolto dalla diplomazia negli ultimi anni: «Mi chiedo oggi, perché questi fatti sembrano così sconosciuti in Italia? Per quale motivo una popolazione che oggi rappresenta un buon 20% se non di più dell’Ucraina si è vista privata dei loro diritti e la loro identità in un totale silenzio europeo?
In tutti questi anni l’Unione Europea insieme agli Stati Uniti ha finanziato questo odio e violenze mandando miliardi di dollari e tonnellate di armi in silenzio. Pensavo che lo scopo primario fosse la Pace, almeno è quello che voleva Schuman quandò nel 1950 pronunciò le seguenti parole: “Questa proposta, mettendo in comune le produzioni di base e istituendo una nuova Alta Autorità, le cui decisioni saranno vincolanti per la Francia, la Germania e i paesi che vi aderiranno, costituirà il primo nucleo concreto di una Federazione europea indispensabile al mantenimento della pace.”
Nessuno ha visto, o ha fatto finta di non vedere il genocidio, l’odio e le descriminazioni che stavano perpetrando una parte dell’Ucraina.
Mi fa male l’ipocrisia che vedo in questi giorni. Manifestazioni di pace per l’Ucraina, certo tutti vogliamo la pace. Ma perchè nessuno la chiedeva per Donbass? O sono forse persone di seconda categoria? Sono stati descritti come terroristi, ossia quelli violenti che devono essere eliminati per assicurare “la nostra pace”, “la nostra Europa”. Lì sono morte persone, anche lì dormivano nei scantinati ma non da 5 giorni ma per ben 8 lunghi anni. Per difendere la propria identità.
Stessa situazione, impatto mediatico diverso.
La guerra va sempre condannata ma a quanto pare si preferisce condannare azioni belliche avviate da Paesi che non siano alleati degli Stati Uniti.
Tant’è che oggi l’Europa della Pace e dei diritti aumenta le tensioni e l’escalation con il rischio di scatenare un conflitto internazionale mandando altri armi e sostegni alla guerra. Ma siamo sicuri di volere la pace?
Penso che dovremmo tutti fare una riflessione, oggi, sul perchè di questo silenzio e fallimento della diplomazia.
Il mondo è cambiato e non possiamo pensare che in un mondo interconnesso come quello attuale, una politica di escalation possa favorire l’Occidente e punire quello che consideriamo nemico.
Questa politica di odio, sanzioni e tentativi di emarginazione di un Paese deve essere fermata per il rispetto nei confronti di tutte le vittime del Donbass e Odessa, discriminati, morti in silenzio.
In conclusione, ritengo che se veramente vogliamo la pace, dobbiamo fare tutti un passo indietro. Capire i motivi del fallimento della diplomazia, assumere le nostre colpe e lavorare alla pace e non alla guerra, come accade negli ultimi giorni».
