A Farrell venne detto che la sua conclusione non combaciava con il “Modello Nazionale di Intelligence” e che le sue convinzioni erano "incompatibili" con la sua posizione. Nonostante sia stato lodato per il suo eccellente servizio e nonostante che il direttore delle Finanze della polizia gli abbia detto che la sua conclusione "poteva essere giusta", Farrell è stato sollevato da ogni incarico il 2 settembre 2010.
Il suo caso è ora in appello presso un Tribunale del lavoro ed è stabilito che sarà ascoltato a Sheffield ai primi di settembre 2011.
